A unique event in its kind, the Ceri race involves the entire population of Gubbio and attracts tourists from all over Italy. It takes place on the eve of the death of St Ubaldo, on May 15th. The Ceri are carried in a hectic race from Piazza della Signoria to the basilica of Sant'Ubaldo at 827 metres above sea level. 
The many events organised in Gubbio all year round make this city a popular weekend destination. The Ceri race is a must. At Christmas the city hoists up the largest Christmas Tree in the world... 
The Palio della Balestra is one of the most important events organised in Gubbio for the celebrations of the city's patron saint Ubaldo. The Palio consists of a contest using the ancient fixed crossbow and is held in Piazza Grande on the last Sunday of May.
