Hidden Spello Revealed

Spello (Pg). With a major show dedicated to Pinturicchio running in Perugia, Spello has decided to open up a number of its hidden treasures that are not normally accessible to the public, including the recently disdovered remains of a Roman villa, parts of the Pinacoteca Comunale and the Palazzo Comunale, which houses a collection of interesting archaeological finds. All special opening tours begin at the Infopoint, near the Porta Consolare.

Pinturicchio in Spello

Spello (Pg). The major monographic show of the great Umbrian Renaissance master Pinturicchio at the Galleria Nazionale dell’Umbria from February 2nd to August 31th will extend to a number of other venues across the region, including the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore in Spello, which Pinturicchio frescoed from 1500 to 1501 and is considered among his greatest achievements.

Pinturicchio in Spello - The Altarpiece of Sant'Andrea

Spello (Pg). The major monographic show of the great Umbrian Renaissance master Pinturicchio at the Galleria Nazionale dell’Umbria from February 2nd to August 31th will extend to a number of other venues across the region, including the Church of Sant'Andrea in Spello, which contains an altarpiece that Pinturicchio painted in part but was obliged to leave unfinished on account of a summons for a commission in Siena. As a quasi-apologetic gesture the great artist actually painted the letter into the picture in Spello...
